KANA SENSEI: KanaSensei is a small Java applet facilitating the learning of Japanese kanas (hiragana and katakana). You can learn both sets of characters at your own pace by specifying subsets of kanas on which the program will test you. The program will ask the specified symbols again and again until you learn them all. The applet is offered in three languages: English, French, and Spanish. The Java source code is also available.

KINGKANJI FOR WINDOWS/PALM: This is a very popular Japanese flashcard program for Windows and is also available on the Palm Pilot. It has animated stroke display for 1st-6th grade Joyo kanji and kana (over 1,200 characters). It is highly customizable and emphasizes kanji/kana writing as well as reading. It can also read your user created flashcard files. This program is self contained and does not require a Japanese operating system or Japanese fonts. KingKanji for Palm is compatible with Palm OS 2.0 and above. This means it works on all Pilots except the Pilot 1000 and 5000. To install a 30 day fully functional demo, simply download the zip file below file, uncompress it, and install the three Pilot databases (.prc and .pdb files) on your Pilot.
