So you are leaving home for a year or maybe three? What to do? Depending on how organised you are and how much time you have, it will probably be a mad rush and you will forget to do something. Reading our InfoZone guide will help you prepare for many aspects of the move. Prepare to become dyslexic, a racial minority and a rockstar rolled into one. (This will make sense pretty soon, don't worry). And girls, don't leave your underwear outside on the line to dry (no, it's not a metaphor). |

The Jet Programme will offer you the opportunity to explore far more than just Japanese language and culture. You will have time to pursue many other interests and setting yourself a few goals and objectives, after you have settled in, will ensure that you make the most of your time and come away with no regrets. It is in effect what you make it.
The Japanese in general are very welcoming people who will go out of their way to help you in any situation. Comfort yourself with the thought that even the most alien of environments will seem second nature to you within a month or two, and that this will be a fantastic experience whatever the ups and downs.
SAYING GOODBYE
It may seem obvious, but plan well ahead and make arrangements to see your friends and family and say goodbye properly. As the departure date nears you will have many things to do and it is best to make your farewells in person rather than on the phone at the airport.
Take down addresses, emails and telephone numbers, store them all on a floppy disk to save space or email the list to your own address so you always have a copy whenever you get near a computer. Set up an email account with Hotmail so your friends can stay in touch. You will most probably be aching for news from home and email is the best route.
