Okinawa is an archipelago of hundreds of islands and islets situated in the very deep south of the Japanese archipelago. Although part of Japan for centuries, Okinawa has always had its own original culture and traditions, making the place very different from mainland Japan. Under the control of both Chinese and Korean before belonging to Japan, Okinawa developed a mixed culture unique to the area and has been fathering activities such as karate, traditional fishing methods, and some of the richest folklore in Japan. As a tropical place, Okinawa is hot and warm year round with extremely clear waters, where visibility can reach 50 meters and more! Water temperature is between 20oC in the winter and 31oC in the summer. You will enjoy a tremendous variety of underwater landscapes and marine life. Diehard divers should look west to the Kerama Islands, a small archipelago located 40km from the Okinawan capital, where diving is considered out of this world.

Reef Encounters offer a range of local dive tours away from the madness and hassle of the shore line, with trips along the Pacific and East China Sea coastlines. Drift dives, wall dives, large animal dives, coral valley dives, white sand and beautiful coral dives, turtles, dolphins, mantas, tuna and sharks. Reef Encounters are also the recognized experts in diving the underwater monuments of Yonaguni. See first hand "The Monument", "The Stage", "The Stadium" and other sites around Yonaguni that have the scientific community in an uproar. Reef Encounters is here to meet your dive training needs. Need a basic class, there is one every week. Want to become an Instructor but can't wait for a scheduled IDC, Reef Encounters have a Course Director on staff to run their Instructor Development program anytime. All classes are available in English or Japanese.

3 Day Dive Package (3 days) - This package is ideal for the JET with a weekend to spare with a late Friday flight to Okinawa and an early morning return flight home on the Monday. Package includes pick up and drop off at the airport, three nights accommodation in a hotel, all equipment, tanks, weights and lunches. You will experience one day with two dives from the shore and one day of boat diving in the waters surrounding Okinawa, led by an experienced guide for all the dives. Boat dives are mainly to the Kerama islands or Tsuken-jima, but weather dependant are also offered to the Hedo and northern sites if requested by small groups.

Advanced Open Water Package (3 days) - For the more experienced diver Reef Encounters have come up with an exciting 3 day package including advanced open water certification! As with the other packages, pick up and drop off at the airport, three nights accommodation in our hotel, all equipment necessary, tanks, weights and lunches. You will enjoy a deep dive, night dive, navigation dive and two specialist dives on this exciting trip during which you can get your advanced open water certification.

Open Water Certification Package (4 days) - Earn your international dive license! Learn to dive with Reef Encounters! Reef Encounters offer a four day certification class with EVERYTHING included. Package includes confined and open water dives, pick up and drop off at the airport, four nights accommodation, all equipment for class, tanks, weights and lunches. Should you want to learn to dive all books will be mailed ahead allowing you to prepare at your leisure. You will begin in the pool and then enjoy four open water dives, and the classes start whenever you are ready.
